DESCRIPTION: During the seventeenth century the early settlers to our
country required basic utilitarian ware such as redware, which was earthy and
rustic in appearance. By the second half of the seventeenth century redware was
being produced from local clays and Redware items were made that were
familiar in form, from their country of heritage, being that of French, English,
Dutch or German. Redware production continued well into the mid nineteenth
century and production had spread throughout the eastern seaboard, large
cities to rural America, even though other materials such as stoneware, tin and
glass were being produced. Redware declined in popularity by the 1880s due to
the competition of mass produced goods.
We are pleased to offer this outstanding, rare, wonderful redware folk art bowl with
original cover design from Pennsylvania circa 1700s - 1800s for your consideration.
